Have any of you seen Crossballs? It's a new show on Comedy Central. Pretty funny. I say it's a cross between The Daily Show, Ali G., Crossfire (of course) and even Candid Camera.
Set up like a prime time political debate a la "Crossfire"; the professional guest spokesmen for each subject have no idea that they're going up against fake opponents (comedians.)
Sometimes (like the Daily) the comedian opponents will film some documentary that aids as a visual to their point of view (usualy very funny.)
It's like Da Ali G. Show because some of the comedic opposition POVs are ridiculus (it's fun to watch the legitimate people look like they've entered The Twilight Zone).
And I imagine it's like Candid Cam. in that as soon as the show is finished, perhaps back stage, the guests are introduced to the comics (not sure they do that though, only assuming.)
The keys to this catching on and actually working, becoming a staple of CC, is the comedian's performance as well as good writing. You'll see for yourself which segments work etc.
My wife and I were speculating that the show would be funnier if they had major players as guests (or at least a mix). With the success of this show, they probably will - depends. Anyway, worth a look.
